Embed OptinMonster

To locate your OptinMonster embed code, follow these steps:

1. From the OptinMonster dashboard, navigate to the Account page. You can access this page by clicking on your Account Name in the top right corner, then select My Account from the dropdown menu.
   
2. Scroll down to the Account-wide Embed Code area. Copy the code in the box.
   
   
   If you have already created a campaign in OptinMonster, you can also find your account-wide (aka Global) embed code on the Publish view of the campaign builder, under Platform > Any Site.
   
3. Paste the embed code into your site template file just before the closing </body> tag.

Example

In this example, we’re editing the index.html file. Note: Your own site may use a different file naming convention, use file snippets, or use an interface option for adding embed codes.

Paste the embed code you previously copied just before the closing </body> tag of your HTML file. Save the changes to your file and upload it to your site.

Account Wide Embed Code

If you’d prefer not to use the OptinMonster for WordPress plugin, you can simply add your account-wide embed code to your website just before the closing </body> tag. That’s usually in the footer.php file of a WordPress theme. Once you’ve added the account-wide embed code to your site once, launching new campaigns is as simple as toggling them from Draft to Published.

If you’re not comfortable editing your website’s templates, but still want to use the account-wide embed code rather than the plugin, we suggest using the plugin Insert Headers and Footers to safely add your code without risking any damage to your site.

You can find the account-wide embed code here when you’re logged in at optinmonster.com, or on the Publish tab of any campaign.

Google Tag Manager

Another way to add OptinMonster’s account-wide embed code to your WordPress website is using Google Tag Manager. This can be particularly helpful if you’re already using Google Tag Manager.

Why We Recommend the Plugin

The OptinMonster for WordPress plugin extends the functionality of OptinMonster specifically for WordPress users. Most OptinMonster users can use the Display Rules for all of their campaign targeting. However, your WordPress website may be setup in a way that doesn’t allow you to target campaigns as specifically as you’d like using only the Display Rules.

Here’s an example…

If you wanted to target the cupcakes category on your baking blog, you could configure a campaign’s Display Rules to show it only when the URL contained /category/cupcakes. That would let the campaign appear on any of these URLs:

But what if your WordPress website’s permalinks are configured NOT to use /category in the URL, or not to show the category slug in your URL? The same URL above would look like

so there would be no category to target with our Display Rules.

This is where the OptinMonster for WordPress plugin shines!

It allows you to target any post, page, category, tag, product or any number of other post types on your site, even if the URL structure doesn’t give you that opportunity using the Display Rules. These additional targeting options are found in the Output Settings of each campaign in the plugin.

When using the OptinMonster for WordPress plugin, your flow for publishing campaigns will look like this:

1. Create a new campaign. Use the Display Rules in the campaign builder to choose where, when and for whom your campaign can appear. Toggle it to Published and Save. Close the campaign and you’ll be directed immediately to that campaign’s Output Settings in the plugin.
2. You’ll see the campaign is a Draft in your plugin, even though you Published it in the previous step. That’s because we want to make sure you have the opportunity to review your Output Settings before publishing the campaign live on your site. Keep in mind that the campaign has to meet all the conditions in your Display Rules AND the conditions in your Output Settings before it can appear.
3. Publish the campaign from your OptinMonster for WordPress plugin.

Troubleshooting

My campaign isn’t appearing as expected.

Do your Display Rules conflict with your Output Settings? For example, if you set your Display Rules to only show the campaign on the homepage, but then configured your Output Settings to show on all Posts, the campaign would not display because those two conditions conflict with one another. The campaign can’t show ONLY on the homepage, and also on all Posts at the same time.

I don’t see the option to install the OptinMonster for WordPress plugin on my WordPress.com site, why?

Unfortunately, not every WordPress.com subscription allows plugins to be installed. If you’re using WordPress.com and would like to install the OptinMonster for WordPress plugin, you’ll need their Business or eCommerce subscription. All OptinMonster documentation for WordPress at optinmonster.com is for websites using the self-hosted version of WordPress (wordpress.org).

Before You Begin

Here are some things to know before you begin:

• The OptinMonster for WordPress plugin is available for download free from the WordPress plugin repository. It includes a free subscription. The free subscription is similar in features to the paid Basic plan with some restrictions. • Follow our WordPress Multisite guide if your WordPress site is part of a Multisite network.
• If you already have an OptinMonster account, go ahead and sign in before you install the plugin. If you have multiple OptinMonster accounts or are a sub-account user on multiple accounts, the account you are actively signed in to will be the one that gets connected to the plugin. To connect a different account, you will need to switch to that account in OptinMonster first.

Install The Plugin

When you are ready to install the OptinMonster for WordPress plugin on your site, follow these steps:

1. Log into the admin of your WordPress site and navigate to the Plugins > Add New screen.
2. Search for “OptinMonster” and select the Install Now button.
   
3. Once installed, click Activate.
   
4. You’re now ready to create a new account or connect your existing account!

Connect Your Existing Account

If you already have an OptinMonster account you can connect it to your WordPress site by following these steps:

1. Navigate to the WordPress admin > OptinMonster > Settings screen and select the Connect an Existing Account button.
   
2. A popup modal will appear prompting you to login to your account and confirm the connection. Select the Connect to WordPress button to continue.
   
3. Once successfully connected, the Settings page will confirm the account that is connected to your WordPress site:
   
4. You are now ready to create campaigns, or publish existing campaigns to your WordPress site.

Create A New Account

If you do not already have an OptinMonster account, follow these steps:

1. From the WordPress admin > OptinMonster > Settings screen select the Create a Free Account to Get Started button.
   
2. On the next screen, select the New? Claim Your Free Account button.
   
3. You’ll be prompted to answer a few questions about your website that will help us suggest the best OptinMonster features to match your needs.
   
4. After you’ve answered those questions, select the Create a Free Account button.
   
5. Complete the registration form including your name, email address and credit card information.
   
6. Congratulations! You’ve connected the OptinMonster for WordPress plugin to your new OptinMonster account.

7. Important: if for some reason the OptinMonster WordPress plugin is not showing your site connected to your new OptinMonster account, follow the steps to Connect an Existing Account to resolve the issue.

Disconnect Account

If you need to disconnect a previously connected account, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to the OptinMonster plugin through the sidebar menu link in the WordPress admin.
2. Select the Settings tab.
3. Select the Disconnect button to disconnect your previously connected account from the plugin. This does not cancel your OptinMonster subscription or uninstall the plugin. It only disconnects the plugin from your OptinMonster account.
   
   Disconnecting the account will remove all previous settings in the plugin for campaigns that were synced to the plugin. If you reconnect to the same account later, you’ll need to manually update the Output Settings for each campaign.

FAQs

I’m registering a new, free account. Why do you need my credit card information?

Great question! We require a credit card in case you’d like to upgrade, or in the event your account exceeds the campaign impressions available. You can always manage your preference for what happens if/when your free account exceeds the free plan limitations in the Pageview and Upgrade Preferences within your Account.

What if I don’t want to use the OptinMonster for the WordPress plugin?

If you prefer not to use the plugin, there are two great alternatives:

• Manually add your account-wide embed code to a template file, commonly the footer.php file, just before the closing body tag.
• Or, use Google Tag Manager.

How can I manually connect WooCommerce with OptinMonster?

You can manually generate your own Keys in WooCommerce following these steps:

1. In the WordPress admin navigate to the WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Rest API screen.
2. Select the Add key button.
   
3. Give the Key an identifiable description, we recommend “OptinMonster”, then select the Generate Key button.
   You’ll be provided a Consumer key and Consumer secret to add to OptinMonster.
4. Next, navigate to the OptinMonster > Settings screen in a new tab and select the click here text link below the Auto-Generate Keys[…] button.
   
5. Enter the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret you were provided in step 3 and select the Connect WooCommerce button.

Installing the Shopify App

You can easily connect OptinMonster with your Shopify store using our native Shopify app.

To install the Shopify App, follow these steps:

1. Important: If you don’t already have a Growth subscription plan, purchase or upgrade to Growth.
2. Next, log in to your OptinMonster account. This step ensures the OptinMonster Shopify app can automatically sync to your OptinMonster account on installation.
3. Next, open a new browser tab and log into your Shopify store.
4. Once you’re logged in, navigate to the Shopify App Store. Here you’ll search for “OptinMonster” to locate our app.
   
5. Once you’ve located the OptinMonster app, select it from the search results.
6. On the next screen, click the Add app button to install the OptinMonster app in your store.
   
7. You’ll be prompted again, once you’ve read the permissions requested by our app select the Install app button.
   
8. The OptinMonster app will be automatically installed on your Shopify store and sync with your OptinMonster account.

I’m not an OptinMonster customer yet, should I sign up through the app?

How you sign-up for OptinMonster affects the options available and way you are billed. The following sign-up options are available:

1. Subscribe through OptinMonster: You can choose annual or monthly billing terms, and will be billed directly by OptinMonster.
2. Subscribe through the Shopify app: Only monthly billing terms are available, and you will be billed directly by Shopify.

There is no difference in the plan features with either approach, we recommend you choose the option that best fits your billing preferences.

What domain do I enter when creating my OptinMonster campaigns?

When using OptinMonster on a Shopify store, it may be necessary to assign multiple domains to a single campaign before it can appear to store visitors. These domains include:

1. Shopify admin domain: this is the domain that appears in the address bar when you are logged into the admin of your Shopify store. This domain is required so the OptinMonster Shopify app can “see” your campaign to embed it in the store. This domain is formatted similarly to: store-name.myshopify.com
   
   If you have multiple Shopify stores connected to a single OptinMonster account we recommend you use a wildcard subdomain for the Shopify admin domain to reduce the number of sites registered to your account. You would then assign only this single wildcard sub-domain to all campaigns that should appear on any Shopify store in your account. This wildcard sub-domain would be formatted exactly like this: *.myshopify.com
2. Shopify custom domain: Shopify allows you to use a custom, pretty, domain for your store. If you have a custom domain assigned to your Shopify store you will also need to register and assign that domain to any OptinMonster campaign you wish to show to store visitors. This is the domain visitors use to visit the front-end of your Shopify store.

You can assign campaigns to multiple domains from the Publish screen in the campaign builder, like this:

1. Navigate to the Publish view of the campaign builder, and under the Websites section click Add a website. Select the website you wish to assign from the dropdown*.
   
   *If the domain you wish to assign to the campaign isn’t available in your account yet, select the option to Add a new website to register it.
2. Repeat for each domain you wish to assign to the campaign.
3. When you’re finished, Save the campaign.

Do I need to manually add my Shopify admin domain to my OptinMonster account?

If the domain hasn’t already been registered to your account before you install the OptinMonster app on your Shopify store, it will be automatically added.

Do I still need to add any code to my Shopify store for OptinMonster?

You will still need to manually place Inline type campaigns where you want them to appear in the page content.

I tried installing the Shopify app without subscribing to the OptinMonster Growth subscription plan first, how should I proceed?

A Growth subscription plan is required to use the OptinMonster Shopify app.

If you install the OptinMonster Shopify app without the required subscription plan you will be prompted by the app to start a free trial and subscribe through the app.

For new users, we recommend you choose how you subscribe to OptinMonster by your billing preferences. Learn more about the different subscription options here.

I have a Growth subscription and I’m still being prompted to sign up for a free trial when I install the Shopify app, why?

If you are not already logged into your OptinMonster account from the same browser session you will receive this notice.

Be sure to log into your OptinMonster account before you install the Shopify app to skip this prompt and automatically sync the app to your OptinMonster account.

Integrate with BigCommerce

When you create a campaign in OptinMonster you’ll want to integrate with your website platform to display the campaign.

To integrate with your BigCommerce site, follow these steps:

1. Log into your BigCommerce site, then select the Apps link from the sidebar menu.
   
2. Next, select the large blue button to visit the BigCommerce App Marketplace. This link may open in a new tab.
   
3. In the search bar enter “OptinMonster” to locate the OptinMonster app. Then select the OptinMonster app from the search results.
   
4. A detail page for the OptinMonster app will appear and from this screen you’ll want to select the Get This App button to begin installing the app.
   
5. You’ll be prompted by BigCommerce to choose if you would like to install the app on an existing store or sign up for a BigCommerce account. In this article, we’re installing on an existing store so select that option.
   
6. In the next step, select the BigCommerce store that you would like to install the app on.
7. The admin of your BigCommerce store will appear along with details of the OptinMonster app. Select the Install button to continue with the installation.
   
8. The last step to installing the OptinMonster app is to grant the app permissions. You’ll be shown a detailed list of the permissions required. Select the checkbox to agree to the permissions request and then select the Confirm button to finish installing the app.
   
9. In the final step, you’ll be prompted to log into your OptinMonster account or start a free trial.
   If you’ve already subscribed to OptinMonster before installing the app, simply log into your existing account.
   If you are new to OptinMonster you can sign up for a 30-day free trial.
10. If you choose to start a free trial you’ll be prompted to enter your details on the next screen to create an account with OptinMonster.
    
11. Once you’re logged into your OptinMonster account you’ll have immediate access to your account and campaigns from within BigCommerce.

To show a Lightbox, Fullscreen, Floating Bar, or Slide-in type campaign on your funnel, follow these steps:

1. In the OptinMonster campaign builder, navigate to the Publish view and copy the Global Embed code.
   
2. Next, while editing your ClickFunnels funnel, from the SETTINGS menu select TRACKING CODE.
   
3. Locate the FOOTER CODE tab in the popup modal that appears, and paste the OptinMonster embed code into the provided field.
   
4. Exit the modal.
5. When you’re finished, Save the funnel.

What domain do I enter when creating my campaign?

To view the campaign when editing a specific page, product, etc in Kajabi you will need to register and assign the domain app.kajabi.com to the campaign. This domain will always show as Not Connected.

To view the campaign when previewing the page or viewing the live site you’ll need to register and assign the domain USERNAME.mykajabi.com for your campaign to load on. Be sure to replace USERNAME with the actual username for your Kajabi account.
